Support Service Plan for Non-Chinese Speaking Children
Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Support
Learning Cantonese joyfully through play — with care and confidence.
Lick Hang Kindergarten values the learning needs of every non-Chinese speaking (NCS) child. We believe language grows naturally through daily experiences and play. We therefore create a warm, engaging and supportive Chinese learning environment where children can gradually build Cantonese understanding, confidence and motivation.
Curriculum Design: Integrated & Progressive
Our school adopts an integrated curriculum, developed through activities and play in line with themes and children’s developmental needs. NCS children learn Chinese through a progressive teaching approach — from listening and understanding, to vocabulary building, contextual conversations and daily application — to strengthen Cantonese step by step.
We also employ NCS teachers to provide Cantonese support for NCS children, offering guidance that meets their needs and helps learning become more effective and reassuring.
Professional Team: Trained Teachers & Responsive Support
Our teachers have received professional training and completed courses related to NCS education. They understand the challenges NCS children may face when learning Chinese, and adjust teaching strategies according to children’s language levels and backgrounds. We provide language input that is clear, simple, repeated and meaningful to support gradual understanding and confidence building.
Learning Through Play: Using Cantonese in Real-life Contexts
We design Chinese learning activities based on Play-based Learning, so children can listen, understand and try using Cantonese naturally in meaningful contexts. Through joyful interaction, children become more willing to speak and gain confidence through successful experiences.
- Role play, storytelling and contextual conversations
- Music, movement and oral language games
- Picture cards, hands-on materials and small-group interaction
- Daily Cantonese phrases (greetings, requests, expressing needs)
